How much do you need, and what's it for?
We need a significant sum for a major one-off refurbishment, and then ongoing support year by year. Gaines currently lies stripped bare and mothballed. We need £350,000 to refit and re-commission it before we can reopen doors (this will pay for an industrial kitchen, essential re-configuration and repairs, and the considerable furnishings and equipment needed). But we’re praying for an additional £1 million to permit major improvements (all-weather play facilities; and conversion of barn, outbuildings and cellar into usable quarters).
We will also need to rely on regular support for our ministry programme - around £100,000 per year. All told, we face a daunting task to raise these huge sums!
Why can’t Gaines be made to pay for itself?
Were Gaines to function as little more than a residential conference venue, then - as it has in the past - it could! But that would not allow us to provide the Bible training to our team members, or to free them up to work in support of existing churches and school CU groups. We also need to ensure that our programmes remain priced at a level that is affordable to all.
All our permanent staff are responsible for raising their own independent support. Our Gap Team too are required to make a significant contribution towards costs. So, you can be assured that every pound raised goes directly to fund our twin aims of Teaching & Reaching.
So, we are praying for one-off gifts as well for partners able to help on an ongoing basis. Our prayer is to find 900 of these each committed to giving just £10 a month to make Gaines viable.
